Generative Art

This is art that is envisioned in detail by the artist, but is rendered (drawn) by a computer or other device.

Art in the 21st century will contain more and more technology. That makes sense. As new technologies are developed artists have always adopted them. A key problem today is that modern technologies require some knowledge of mathematics and computation to be fully used by an artist. Some of us don't feel we can engage with math and the like.

If you want to paint or draw, you do need certain skills. Those can be learned. If you want to do generative art the same is true, but the skills differ. Nonetheless they, too, can be learned.

Window

View from the window of the starship Enterprise while travelling at warp. Generative, based on the TV program and random scenes with views of the windows. This is my intrerpretation, as an algorithm, of what was seen in the program, and differs in detail. Star colours are drawn from the actual possible star colors in rough proportion to their actual occurrance, and are more intense to make them more interesting. The streaks were the most difficult to create, and use my own method.

Mondrean (2024)

Beginning with his famous masterpiece, the painting decides to change.
Mondreans of this type are horizontal and vertical and use a very limited but vivid palette, which I like. Starting with his iconic Composition with Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Gray and Blue (1921) the elements of his painting move and leave the canvas, new elements are created and enter. The focus is horizontal and vertical.

Computer games are a 20th century art form than can erasily be classed as generative, and interactive as well. I have created many computer games, some web pased and others PC based. These are free! Many are 'educational' in some sense.

Sound

Digital audio can be generative. However, I simply have a keen interest in sound: music, effects, ambiance, and voice. I have some resources and works here that could be of interest.

A sound effect is a sound that indicates an event: something happened. A pin dropping, a car engine starting, a gun shot.
